Presentation by Stephen Shields on the findings of the Shrewsbury I-Tree Project.
In brief the study has so far found that Shrewsbury has a reasonable level of canopy cover at 14%. The highest levels of canopy cover are in the historic parts of the town, the tree stock has a good age diversity, although over two thirds of the existing trees are expected to be lost over the next 40 years and that there is a high proportion of ash trees present in the population.
The next stages are to undertake a more detailed analysis of the trees and urban forest that are in public ownership and to produce a tree strategy to begin to address some of the issues identified.
